A new medical school, the Western Michigan University Homer Stryker M.D. School of Medicine (WMed) is a collaboration involving Western Michigan University and Kalamazoo’s two teaching hospitals, Borgess Health and Bronson Healthcare. It is among only a few U.S. medical schools in several decades to be built from the ground up and is built on the strengths of extraordinary partners.
West Michigan Cancer Center
The West Michigan Cancer Center & Institute for Blood Disorders (WMCC) began as a cooperative project by the Borgess Health Alliance and Bronson Healthcare Group to provide a state-of-the-art treatment facility for the Kalamazoo community and surrounding areas. The West Michigan Cancer Center has received accreditations for quality care by the American College of Radiology Imaging Network (ACRIN), the American College of Radiation Oncology (ACRO), and the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) with its Quality Oncology Practice Initiative (QOPI) certification. Their breast cancer clinic is accredited by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC).
Bronson Healthcare Group
A not-for-profit tertiary heathcare system, Bronson Healthcare Group is one of the area’s largest employers with a medical staff of over 700 and a total staff of approximately 5,000. Bronson Healthcare Group offers a complete range of services from primary care to advanced critical care and has been the recpient of numerous national awards. Recent achievements from 2016 include:
- Nationally recognized by Healthgrades for providing an Outstanding Patient Experience (2009-2016).
- Bronson Battle Creek is among the top ten percent in the nation as a recipient of Healthgrades Patient Safety Excellence Award (2016).
